Medical uses:

Qelbree (Viloxazine 100 mg, 150 mg, and 200 mg) is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor commonly prescribed for treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in both adults and children aged 6 years and older.

Recommended Dosage:

  • Administration: Take Qelbree orally, with or without food. Do not chew, cut, or crush the capsules. Swallow them whole, or open the capsules and sprinkle the contents over a tablespoon or teaspoon of pudding or applesauce. Consume the mixture entirely within 15 minutes if using pudding, or within a couple of hours if using applesauce. Do not store the mixture for future use.

Pediatric Patients:

  • Ages 6-11: Start with 100 mg orally once daily. The dosage can be increased by 100 mg each week, up to a maximum of 400 mg daily, based on response and tolerability.
  • Ages 12-17: Start with 200 mg orally once daily. After one week, the dosage can be increased by 200 mg, up to a maximum of 400 mg daily, based on response and tolerability.

Adult Patients:

  • Starting Dosage: Begin with 200 mg orally once daily. The dosage can be increased by 200 mg each week, up to a maximum of 600 mg daily, based on response and tolerability.
  • Long-term Use: ADHD treatment may be needed for extended periods. Regularly reevaluate the long-term use of Qelbree and adjust the dosage as necessary.

Warnings & Precautions:

Evaluate heart rate and blood pressure before starting treatment with Qelbree (Viloxazine) 100 mg, 150 mg, or 200 mg capsules, after any dosage increases, and periodically throughout the therapy.

Before initiating treatment with Viloxazine capsules (100 mg, 150 mg, 200 mg), screen patients for a personal or family history of bipolar disorder, suicide, and depression.

Suicidal Thoughts/Behaviors: Higher rates of suicidal thoughts and behaviors have been reported in both pediatric and adult patients with ADHD treated with Viloxazine. Closely monitor patients for clinical worsening and the emergence of suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

Cardiovascular Effects: Viloxazine can cause an increase in heart rate and diastolic blood pressure. Evaluate heart rate and blood pressure before starting treatment, following dosage increases, and periodically during therapy.

Bipolar Disorder Risk: Noradrenergic medications like Qelbree may induce manic or mixed episodes in patients with bipolar disorder. Screen patients for bipolar disorder risk before starting treatment.

Fatigue and Somnolence: Qelbree can cause fatigue and drowsiness. Patients should avoid activities requiring mental alertness, such as driving or operating machinery, until they know how the medication affects them.

Pregnancy: Viloxazine may cause harm if used during pregnancy. Discontinue treatment if pregnancy is detected unless the benefits outweigh the potential risks to the mother.
