Merck

Details:

Medical uses:

Verquvo is a soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) stimulator used to treat adults with chronic heart failure who have symptoms or signs of the condition, have recently been hospitalized, or required intravenous (IV) medications, and have an ejection fraction (the percentage of blood pumped out with each heartbeat) of less than 45%. This medication helps reduce the risk of death and the need for hospitalization.

Recommended Dosage:

  • Starting Dose: Begin with 2.5 mg (one Verquvo tablet) once daily with food.
  • Dose Adjustment: Double the dose approximately every two weeks to reach the target maintenance dose of 10 mg once daily, as tolerated by the patient.

Administration:

  • Swallow the tablets whole. If you cannot swallow the tablet whole, you may crush it and mix it with water just before taking your dose.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible on the same day. Do not take two doses on the same day to make up for a missed dose.

Warnings & Precautions:

  • Avoid Concurrent Use: Do not start Verquvo 2.5 mg if you are already taking another soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) stimulator. Consult your healthcare provider if you are unsure whether your current medication falls into this category.
  • Risk of Hypotension: Verquvo may cause symptomatic hypotension. It has not been studied in patients with systolic blood pressure (SBP) below 100 mmHg or those experiencing symptomatic hypotension at the start of treatment.
  • Pregnancy Warning: Verquvo may harm an unborn baby if taken during pregnancy. A pregnancy test should be conducted before starting treatment. Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 30 days after the last dose.
  • Breastfeeding Warning: Vericiguat, the active ingredient in Verquvo, has been found in the milk of lactating rats and may be present in human milk. Due to the potential for serious adverse effects in breastfed infants, women should not breastfeed while taking Verquvo.
  • Lactose Content: Verquvo contains lactose. Patients with rare hereditary conditions such as galactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or lactase deficiency should avoid this medication.
