Medical Use
Eldisine is an anti-neoplastic medication administered intravenously, either alone or in combination with other cancer treatments. It can be effective as a single agent for:
- -Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) that is resistant to other treatments.
- -Blastic crises of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).
- -Malignant melanoma that does not respond to other therapies.
- -Advanced breast carcinoma that is unresponsive to appropriate endocrine surgery and/or hormonal therapy.
Recommended Dosage:
- -Administer Eldisine intravenously as a rapid bolus injection once a week.
- -Dosage is based on body surface area (BSA).
- Adults and Elderly: Start with 3 mg/m².
- Children: Start with 4 mg/m².
- -Before each subsequent dose, check granulocyte counts to assess the patient’s sensitivity to the drug. If there is no granulocytopenia or other toxicity, the dosage can be increased by 0.5 mg/m² each week.
Warning & Precautions
When calculating and administering the dose of Eldisine 5 mg injection, it is crucial to exercise extreme caution, as an overdose can lead to severe or fatal consequences.
Eldisine should be injected into a large vein to prevent leakage into surrounding tissues, which can cause irritation, cellulitis, or vein swelling.
During therapy with vindesine, patients may experience low platelet counts, neurotoxicity, and reduced granulocyte counts. Therefore, it is important to monitor patients closely for any signs of nerve damage or infection and provide appropriate treatment.
Women of reproductive age with an active male partner should use effective contraception during and for several months after treatment with Eldisine to prevent unwanted pregnancy.
Breastfeeding women should avoid nursing during treatment with vindesine, as it may harm the baby.
