Medical Use
Evrenzo is an anti-anemia medication used to treat adults with symptomatic anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Recommended Dosage:
- -Three Times Weekly Schedule: Evrenzo tablets come in a blister pack containing a 4-week supply (12 tablets), divided into four rows. Each row represents one week of medication (three tablets). Take tablets from the same row each week. The dosage can range from 20 mg three times weekly up to a maximum of 400 mg three times weekly.
- -Alternative Dosing Frequencies: Depending on hemoglobin levels, your doctor may adjust the dose to 20 mg two times or one time weekly. Your doctor will specify which days to take your dose.
- -Multiple Tablets for a Dose: Typically, patients will have one blister pack per month. If your dose requires more than one blister pack, you will need to take tablets from each pack on dosing days. Your healthcare provider will guide you on the exact number of tablets and when to take them.
Monitoring and Adjustments:
- -Hemoglobin Levels: Your hemoglobin levels will be regularly monitored. If they become too high, treatment with Evrenzo (20 mg/50 mg/70 mg/100 mg, or 150 mg) may be temporarily stopped. Do not restart treatment without your doctor’s approval.
Warning & Precautions
Use Evrenzo with Caution: Patients with a history of seizures, epilepsy, or conditions that predispose them to seizure activity, such as central nervous system (CNS) infections, should use Evrenzo cautiously.
Risk of Serious Infections: Serious infections, including pneumonia and urinary tract infections (UTIs), may occur. Patients showing signs or symptoms of infection should be promptly evaluated and treated according to standard medical practices.
Secondary Hypothyroidism: The use of Evrenzo (150 mg, 100 mg, 70 mg, 50 mg, or 20 mg) may lead to secondary hypothyroidism, which can be reversible upon discontinuation of the medication. Monitor thyroid function as needed.
Hepatic Impairment: Exercise caution when using Evrenzo in patients with moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh class B). It is not recommended for patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh class C).
Pregnancy: Evrenzo is contraindicated during the third trimester of pregnancy and should not be used during the first and second trimesters. If pregnancy is suspected while taking Evrenzo (70 mg or any other strength), discontinue treatment and consider alternative therapies.
Breastfeeding: It is unknown if Evrenzo or its metabolites are excreted in human milk. Based on animal studies, roxadustat may be present in milk. Therefore, avoid using this medication while breastfeeding.
Driving and Using Machines: This medication has minimal impact on the ability to drive or operate machinery. However, since seizures may occur during treatment, exercise caution when engaging in these activities.
