Oncaspar (Pegaspargase) is an enzyme that targets asparagine, used as part of a multi-agent chemotherapy regimen for treating patients with:
- -Newly diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
- -Acute lymphoblastic leukemia in patients who are hypersensitive to asparaginase.
Warning & Precautions
Monitor patients for 60 minutes after administering Oncaspar 3750 in a setting equipped with resuscitation tools and medications for treating anaphylaxis, such as oxygen, epinephrine, intravenous steroids, and antihistamines.
Severe thrombotic events, including sagittal sinus thrombosis, can occur in patients receiving pegaspargase injections. Discontinue use in patients who experience serious thrombotic events.
Pancreatitis may develop in patients receiving Oncaspar. Evaluate patients with abdominal pain for signs of pancreatitis and discontinue Oncaspar if pancreatitis is confirmed.
Glucose intolerance may occur in patients undergoing Oncaspar therapy, and in some cases, it may be irreversible.
Monitor coagulation parameters at baseline and periodically during and after treatment in patients receiving pegaspargase.
