Medical Use
Korsuva is a kappa opioid receptor agonist used to treat moderate-to-severe itching (pruritus) in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD-aP) who are undergoing hemodialysis (HD). It is not intended for use in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis.
Recommended Dosage :
Administer Korsuva at a dose of 0.5 mcg per kg via intravenous bolus injection into the venous line of the dialysis circuit after each hemodialysis session. If a hemodialysis session is missed, resume Korsuva treatment after the next session.
Do not mix or dilute the Korsuva injection (65 mcg/1.3 mL, 50 mcg/mL) before administration. Use the medication within 60 minutes of preparing the syringe.
Warning & Precautions
Patients should not use Korsuva if they are allergic to difelikefalin or any of its ingredients.
Mental status changes, dizziness, drowsiness, and gait disturbances, including falls, may occur with difelikefalin use and may lessen over time with continued therapy. The risk of these side effects may increase when used with centrally-acting depressants, opioid pain relievers, and sedating antihistamines.
Korsuva may impair the physical or mental abilities needed to drive or operate machinery. Patients should avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until they know how the medication affects them.
There is no data on the use of difelikefalin in pregnant women. As a precaution, it is best to avoid using this medication during pregnancy.
