Bevyxxa (betrixaban) capsules act as a factor Xa (FXa) inhibitor and are prescribed to prevent venous thromboembolism (VTE) in adults hospitalized for acute medical conditions. These patients are at risk of thromboembolic complications due to moderate or severe restricted mobility and other VTE risk factors.
Warning & Precautions
Bevyxxa can lead to a severe blood clot around the spinal cord, particularly if person has undergone a spinal tap or receive spinal anesthesia (epidural). The risk is higher if patient have a genetic spinal defect, a spinal catheter, a history of spinal surgery or repeated spinal taps, or if patient is taking other medications that affect blood clotting. This type of clot can result in long-term or permanent paralysis.
Seek emergency medical attention if patient experience symptoms of a spinal cord blood clot, such as back pain, numbness or muscle weakness in lower body, or loss of bladder or bowel control.
