Medical Use
Dantrium (Dantrolene Sodium) is a muscle relaxant prescribed for treating malignant hyperthermia. It is used alongside other supportive treatments and also helps prevent malignant hyperthermia in individuals who are at high risk.
Warning & Precautions
Regular liver function tests (such as SGOT or SGPT) should be conducted at appropriate intervals during treatment with Dantrium injection. It’s crucial to avoid extravasation of the 20 mg dantrolene solution into surrounding tissues due to its high pH, which can cause tissue necrosis. Dantrolene use has been linked to pleural effusion with eosinophilia, so it should be used cautiously in patients with a history of liver disease or dysfunction. Additionally, dantrolene may cause photosensitivity reactions, so patients should be advised to limit sun exposure. Dantrium 20 mg injection is not recommended for use in nursing mothers, during pregnancy, or while breastfeeding.
