Nuplazid (Pimavanserin) is a unique antipsychotic medication specifically designed to treat hallucinations and delusions in individuals with Parkinson’s disease psychosis.
Warning & Precautions
Nuplazid is not approved for treating dementia-related psychosis unless it is associated with hallucinations and delusions from Parkinson’s disease psychosis. The 17 mg dose of Nuplazid can prolong the QT interval, so it should not be used in patients with known QT prolongation or with other medications that also prolong the QT interval, such as Class 1A or Class 3 antiarrhythmics, certain antipsychotics, and some antibiotics.
Pimavanserin 34 mg should not be used in patients with a history of cardiac arrhythmias or in conditions that increase the risk of torsade de pointes or sudden death, including symptomatic bradycardia, hypokalemia, or hypermagnesemia. The safety and effectiveness of Nuplazid 34 mg have not been established in pediatric patients.
