Orkambi is a medication prescribed for treating cystic fibrosis in individuals aged one year and older. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that significantly impacts the lungs, digestive system, and other organs. This treatment is specifically for patients with the F508del mutation in the CFTR gene, which they inherit from both parents. Orkambi combines two active ingredients: lumacaftor and ivacaftor.
Warning & Precautions
Before starting ORKAMBI, patient should inform doctor about his medical conditions, including:

- -Have kidney issues
- -Have lung issues
- -Have undergone an organ transplant
- -Are using hormonal contraceptives (oral, injectable, transdermal, or implantable). Hormonal contraceptives should not be used as birth control while on ORKAMBI. Discuss with doctor the best birth control method during this treatment
- -Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. The effects of ORKAMBI on an unborn baby are unknown, so doctor - should decide if it should be taken while pregnant.
- -Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is not known if ORKAMBI passes into breast milk, doctor should decide if it should be taken while breastfeeding
